1 Dinosaurs: Facts about Meat-Eaters and Plant-Eaters
Internet Search Tutorial Miss Limp’s 1st Grade Class

2 We are going to search the internet to learn about dinosaurs.

3 Before we begin searching the internet there are some words we must learn
Address Bar: This is the white box at the top of the screen. This is where you type in the web address of the page you would like to go to. Keyword: This is a word or many words that you use to describe the topic that you would like to learn about. You will type this word into a search engine. Search Engine: A search engine is a special website. You type in a keyword or many keywords and many different names of websites will pop up that are related to the topic you are searching. Web Address: Every website has a specific address. It will begin with www. and it can end with either .edu, .org, .com, or .net.

4 Step 1 You are going to click on the internet explorer icon .
It looks like this

5 A window will open up and you will see our school website.

6 Step 3 Find the address bar at the top of the page. Click inside of the box. The web address in the address bar will turn blue when you click it. When it turns blue, hit the backspace key on your keyboard.

7 Step 4 We are going to type in a new web address in the address bar. The website we are going to go to is Type in the web address and then press enter on your keyboard. Double check your spelling to make sure that you typed the web address correctly so we can all get to the same page!

8 The Ask Kids web page will open up.

9 Step 5 We are going to search for meat-eating dinosaurs.
Find the search bar on the web page. It will look like this Type in Which dinosaurs were carnivores

10 Step 6 A web page will appear will many different links to click on.
We are going to click on the second link. It says Bipedal Carnivores It will look like this

This is what the new page will look like. You will need to look at this page and find 3 facts about meat-eating dinosaurs.

12 Step 7 Next we are going to go to another page by clicking on a link at the bottom of the page. The link will say Long-Necked Herbivore. It will look like this

This is what the new page will look like. On this page you will need to find 3 facts about plant-eating dinosaurs.

14 Step 8 With the new facts we learned about meat-eating and plant-eating dinosaurs we are going to do a fun activity. But first, you need to make sure that you have your 3 facts about meat-eaters and your 3 facts about plant-eaters written down on your sheet of paper.

15 But Wait…. We are not finished yet. You must cite the web pages that you used to find all of your information. When you cite something you are giving credit to the person that you got the information from. We will go through the steps of citing work together!

16 Step 9 On the bottom of your paper you will need to write down the name of the website. You will also need to write down the web address. Since we used 2 pages, you need to cite both pages.

17 Step 10 After you have both of these items written down, you need to add today’s date at the end. Your finished citations should look like this: FactMonster.com October 13, 2008
