Evangelism and Witnessing Lesson 4, April 28 Evangelism and Witnessing Lesson 4, April 28 Evangelism and Witnessing as a Lifestyle

Evangelism and Witnessing as a Lifestyle Key Text Acts 9:36 NKJV “A T JOPPA THERE was a certain disciple named Tabitha, which is translated Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and charitable deeds which she did.”

Evangelism and Witnessing as a Lifestyle Initial Words {205} W HAT WE BELIEVE will impact the choices we make and the kind of lives we live. Those who watch us do learn from us. So, the important question is, “How are we influencing other people, and what are we passing on to them?”

Evangelism and Witnessing as a Lifestyle Quick Look 1. Lifestyle: Silent Service (2 Corinthians 3:2, 3) 2. Lifestyle: Service with a Heart (Matthew 9:36-38) 3. Lifestyle: Hospitable Service (Luke 14:12-14)

Evangelism and Witnessing as a Lifestyle 1. Lifestyle: Silent Service 2 Corinthians 3:2, 3 NKJV “Y OU ARE OUR epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; you are manifestly an epistle of Christ, ministered by us written not with ink, but by the Spirit of the living God…on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.

1.Lifestyle Silent Service Silent Sermons {206} H OW WOULD YOU recognize a Christian? Jesus said that if we love one another, others will know that we are His disciples. How will they know? Because love in action will convince them. The love we have for Jesus and for fellow believers will determine how we respond to God’s will and, in turn, how we treat one another.

1.Lifestyle Silent Service Silent Sermons {206} Furthermore, the love and concern that we have for those outside of God’s fold will determine how we treat them too. This is the sermon that they will see and observe, and it speaks louder than anything you could ever say.

1.Lifestyle Silent Service Silent Sermons {206} The Christian’s life is to be like a letter sent from Jesus Christ to the world. From a heart that is renewed by divine grace, this letter will demonstrate the power of the gospel to transform lives and thereby will witness for the Lord.

Evangelism and Witnessing as a Lifestyle 2. Lifestyle: Heart Service Matthew 9:36-38 NKJV “B UT WHEN HE saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. … ‘The harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few. … Pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’”

2. Lifestyle Heart Service Compassion for People {207} A MONG THE MASSES of people with whom we mingle, many are committed to Jesus Christ. But many more also desperately need the Good Shepherd. Somehow they must be reached for Christ.

2. Lifestyle Heart Service Compassion for People {207} When we have compassion for the people who live around our churches and our homes, we again will sense the need to pray that the Lord of the harvest will send out workers, and perhaps, in turn, we will realize our potential as laborers for the Lord.

2. Lifestyle Heart Service Walking in Their Shoes {208} Rather than providing what we think people need, we must learn to recognize what they see as important priorities. What are they concerned about? What are their problems? What do they feel that they need?

2. Lifestyle Heart Service Walking in Their Shoes {208} Without compromising on matters of principle, Paul was willing to go anywhere and do anything he could to be in a better position to convince people of the truth of the gospel. He was willing to walk in their shoes in an attempt to understand them and to determine the best way to reach them for Jesus Christ.

Evangelism and Witnessing as a Lifestyle 3. Lifestyle: Hospitable Service Luke 14:12-14 NKJV “ ‘W HEN YOU GIVE a dinner…do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor your rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid. … Invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. And you will be blessed….’”

3. Lifestyle: Hospitable Service Areas of Hospitality {209} H OSPITALITY INCLUDES THE areas of acceptance, welcoming, openness, caring, generosity, kindness, and friendship. Acquaintances can become friends through hospitality evangelism, which flows out of a hospitable lifestyle; not something that is turned off on occasion; rather, it is the way we live.

3. Lifestyle: Hospitable Service Widening Friendship {210} Though it is important for us to avoid unholy influences, there is a degree to which such isolation detracts from our ability to reach people with the gospel message.

3. Lifestyle: Hospitable Service Widening Friendship {210} The challenge for us is to intentionally expand our personal mission field. This may mean adjusting our lifestyle in order to rub shoulders with more unchurched people. We need to ask if we have withdrawn too much from the world and have lost some of our evangelistic effectiveness.

Evangelism and Witnessing as a Lifestyle Final Words {349} “TOO OFTEN THE influence of the sermon preached from the pulpit is counteracted by the sermon preached in the lives of those who claim to be advocates of truth.” Testimonies for the Church 9:21
