3 Story Elements Characters – people, animals, objects that interact with each other Example: Beauty and the Beast Setting – where and when a story takes place Example: France, probably set in 1800’s Plot – the sequence of events that the story follows

4 Story Elements Problem/Conflict: the issue that the main character needs to solve Example: Beast wants to be human again and needs to find love Climax – big event towards end of the story Example: Gaston leads towns’ people to Beast castle to kill him, residents fight off invaders

5 Story Elements Resolution – problem is solved Example: Beast turns into a human again; Belle and he live happily ever after

6 Theme the meaning of the story central or dominating idea

7 Mood is the general atmosphere created by the author’s words.
It is the feeling the reader gets from reading those words. It may be the same, or it may change from situation to situation.

8 Point of View First person: appears as if the author is part of the story – uses “I” for main character Second person: appears to make the reader part of the story – uses “you” for the main character Third person – the author is not part of the story – uses character names, he, she, it etc…
