2 Part 12: Understanding Rules of Driving Time

3 Imagine the result Understanding the Rules for Driving Time Listen to a summary of 11-hour and 14-hour rules The Hours of Service Rules for CMV drivers are complicated and confusing. ARCADIS is classified as a property carrying, interstate motor carrier, that operates CMVs 7 days a week. The following is a summary of Federal driving requirements applicable to ARCADIS activities: - 11-Hour Rule - Drivers are allowed to drive for 11 hours following 10 consecutive hours off duty. - 14-Hour Rule - A Driver is not permitted to drive after the 14th hour of coming on duty following 10 consecutive hours off duty. For example, if you start work at 0700 and work in the office for 4 hours and then begin driving to a jobsite at 1100, you must stop driving at 2100 hours (10 hours total driving time).

4 Imagine the result More Driving Time Rules... 16-Hour Short Haul Operations Exception - There is a 16-hour exception for the 14-Hour Rule where a Driver can drive an additional 2 hours over the 14 hour limit if: Has been released from duty at their normal work reporting location for the previous 5 duty tours Is released from duty at his/her normal work reporting location within 16 hours after coming on duty following 10 consecutive hours off duty Has not taken this exemption within the previous 6 days, except following a 34-hour restart of an 8 day period (or 7 day period, see below) Listen to a summary of the 16-hour short haul operations exception

5 Imagine the result Even More Driving Time Rules... 70-Hour Rule - A Driver is not permitted to drive a CMV after 70 Hours on duty in any 8 consecutive days A 60-Hour Rule exists where a driver cannot drive after 60 hours in any 7 consecutive days. This rule applies to companies that do not operate CMVs 7 days a week. However, an ARCADIS Supervisor may apply this rule to all or part of his/her direct reports operating CMVs 34-Hour Restart - The 70-Hour (or 60-Hour) cycle is restarted any time the Driver is off duty for 34 consecutive hours Listen to a summary of the 70-hour rules
