4 Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing n Purpose to prevent accidents n Applies to operators of CMVs n Testing must be done by Part 40 n Some tests may be waived by the state

5 Definitions n Commercial Motor Vehicle n Screening Tests n Confirmation Tests n Alcohol Concentration n Controlled Substances n Disabling Damage n Safety Sensitive Functions

6 Controlled Substances n Marijuana n Amphetamines n Cocaine n Opiates n Phencyclidine n All others not allowed to be tested for DOT compliance n Employees must be notified

7 Prohibited Conduct n Alcohol Concentration greater than 0.04 n No on-duty use of alcohol n No pre-duty consumption of alcohol for 4 hours n No post-accident use of alcohol for 8 hours after an accident n Refusal to take test n No use of controlled substances n No work if test positive.
