Acts 1:9 “And when He had spoken these things…..”

Acts 1:1-9 1.The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. ye shall be witnesses earth.8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

And When He Had spoken these things Acts 1:9

Some ofLast Recorded Words of Jesus on the earth!! Luke’s account Luke 24:49 “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.”

Lk. 24:50-53 50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. 51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

Acts 1:9-11 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

The disciples do as Jesus told them to do.. 12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey. 13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

We note what John said: John 21:25 if they should be written every one25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

Malachi 4:5,6 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

It is obvious that Jesus was concerned about us on earth.. 1. Luke 24:45-48 Preaching repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.. And ye are witnesses of these things 2. Matt. 28:18-20 Go preach to all the world The Apostles were eye witnesses

Peter’s Affirmation He was an eye-witness! but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.2 Peter 1:16-19 16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. 19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Acts 1:22 “…witness with us of his resurrection.” Acts 2:32 “This Jesus hath God raised up….” Acts 3:15 “…whereof we are witnesses” Acts 5:30-32 “the God of our fathers raised up Jesus” “and we are witnesses of these things” Acts 13:30-31 “But God raised him from the dead: 31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.”

Acts 10:34-43 v. 38 “who went about doing good” v. 39 “And we are witnesses of all things which he did” v. 40 “Him God raised up the third day” v. 41 “Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.”

Context shows that the witnesses were the apostles Four specific qualifications: 1. Be with Jesus from beginning of ministry John 15:26,27 2. From John’s baptism until ascension Acts 1:21-22 3. Had to have seen the resurrected Christ Acts 1:27 4. Inspired witnesses - perform miracles Luke 24:48-49 Baptized with Holy Spirit - Acts 1:8 2:1-4

What Christ hath spoken concerning Teaching His Words….. To convert souls Terms used in the New Testament:  “teach” or “make disciples” Matt. 28:19  “teach and preach Jesus Christ” Acts 5:42  “preaching the word” Acts 8:4  “converteth” James 5:20  “preached unto him Jesus” Acts 8:35

Some want to tell about their experiences We are saved by the gospel - - - not our experience 1 Cor. 15:1-4 Gospel -- Death, burial, resurrection Rom. 1:16 the Gospel is the power of God that can save us “But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine.” Titus 2:1

Jesus tells us that people would believe in Him through the words of his apostles John 17:20 “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word.”

1. Teach what Jesus said about the Church. Matt. 16:18,19; Eph. 4:1-6; Col. 1:18 2. Teach what Jesus said about2. Teach what Jesus said about Worship.Worship. John 4:23,24; Matt. 15:9 3. Teach what Jesus said about sinners. Rom. 5:8,9; Heb. 5:8,9

4. Teach what Jesus taught us on How to live. Matt. 5:16; Matt. 6:33. 5. Teach what Jesus taught on what To do to be saved. Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:15,16
