EXCHANGE PROGRAMME INFORMATION SESSION IB2

Important points Please be aware that the semester dates are different for all our partner universities – do not assume that you will be starting in late September as we do at Strathclyde. Many partners will start in early August and so it is advised that you do not plan holidays, internships, summer jobs etc if you are planning on going to a partner with an early start date. All semester dates can be found on our partners’ websites. The application forms for some of our partners require you AT THE POINT OF APPLICATION to prove that you have enough money in your bank account to maintain you for the entire duration of your exchange. The application process to partners can be as early as March 2012 so you need to be aware of this. Bank statements in English will be required.

Check your passport is uptodate. You need to have at least 6 months remaining on the passport after the end of your exchange period. Do not wait until nearer your departure date to get a new passport – this will cause delays in getting visas etc and will cause you unnecessary stress. Apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) now if you do not have one. The card is free and is valid for 5 years so get this now. Website is www.ehic.org.ukwww.ehic.org.uk

When do I apply? The application deadline is 16 January 2012. Once you have completed the Strathclyde application you will be nominated to a university abroad and will then have to complete that university’s application procedure. Every partner has a different deadline application deadline date so you need to be prepared to complete the application any time from March 2012 on. You will be asked to put the following areas in order of preference : Europe, North America, Australasia and Asia According to your subject combination you will then be allocated a place at a partner university in one of these areas of the world You are not guaranteed your first choice, need to put your preferences on the application form and explain why you are applying for each We will do our best to match your preferences, though some destinations may be more in demand than others. Your subject areas may limit your choice of destination and university.

Information Sessions Wednesday 23 November, 5.30 – 6.30pm, Undergraduate Office, Level 3, Sir William Duncan Building An opportunity to meet with returned IB students and with incoming exchange students from partner institutions.
