1  Do Now  Topics for Plays PowerPoint  If you haven’t done Achieve 3000 Level Set Test, you must do that after the PowerPoint  Brainstorm topics & settings for possible plays  Vocabulary Review (Test postponed due to technical difficulties)  Peer evaluation of play plot possibilities.

4  Every play is a story.  Every story needs to have a setting.  Things to consider:  Where is it?  When is it?  Who are the characters?  What is their world normally like?  What is going to change to drive the story?

5  As with all literature, good plays aren’t just stories; they are lessons.  Most have a message about one (or more) of the following:  Human relationships  Social/societal issues  National issues  Global issues  Religious issues  Political issues

6  Every story gives its message somehow.  Some have characters say it directly to the audience at some point  Some let the audience figure out some truth through the way events happen  Some show the audience the opposite of what they want to say, and make it ironic  Some make each character represent something, and tell their message symbolically

7  Comedy – Funny, with a happy ending.  Tragedy – Dramatic, with a sad ending.  Tragic comedy – Funny, with a sad ending.  History - Based on reality.
