3 This is my seventh year at Hillsboro High School. I am the French Club Sponsor and was the Freshman Class Sponsor in the past.

4 Course Description Introduction into the French language Learn basics of speaking, reading, and writing French Learn about culture of French speaking countries Year long class

5 Instructional Philosophy Students will acquire and develop the fundamentals of oral and written communication. Students will learn respect for humanity and dignity of other cultures and civilizations. Students become more functional members in a world- oriented society. Students become more tolerant, sensitive, and knowledgeable people who understand linguistic and cultural diversity.

6 Major Course Goals Engage in conversation, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions. Demonstrate an understanding of the culture Reinforce and further knowledge of other disciplines Learn and apply vocabulary Comprehend and answer questions in complete sentences Write sentences that agree in gender and number Compose sentences using regular and irregular verbs Translate from French to English and English to French Conjugate regular and irregular verbs Discuss Francophone lifestyle

12 Grading Scale 90-100 A 80-89 B 70-79 C 60-69 D 0-59 F

13 Tardy Policy One free tardy per semester (Warning) Eighth hour for every other tardy (Students must be in their seat when the bell rings)

14 Absent Work Can be found on the website under homework. Label make-up work “absent” and the date absent You have three days to make up missed work

15 Sign Out Please sign the sign-out sheet when you exit and enter the classroom with name, destination, time out, and time in. (This is for your safety.)

16 Food and Drinks Food and drinks are not allowed in the school except the commons. Water is allowed.

17 Other Reading non-class materials, writing and passing notes, and doing other homework are NOT allowed in class unless time is given to work on French homework and it is completed. Show completed homework to teacher before engaging in outside activities. 1 st offense-Warning and outside activity taken away until the same hour the next school day. 2 nd offense-Outside activity taken away and eighth hour. 3 rd offense-Outside activity taken away and two eighth hours.

18 Materials French book Paper (You’ll need a lot) 2” Binder and Dividers Pen or Pencil Completed Homework French dictionary is strongly advised but not required.

19 Extra Help Is available, but must be requested in advance. There is no official tutoring available for this class, but I am willing to help.
