2 Only Miracle in all 4 gospels Matt. 14:15-21 Mk. 6:34-44 Lk. 9:12-17 Jn. 6:5-14 Context - John the Baptist had been killed - Herod thought Jesus was John risen - Disciples buried body of John - Jesus and disciples went to desert place - Multitudes followed – Jesus taught

3 Jn. 6:5-9 “Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?" But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do. Philip answered Him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little." One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him, "There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?” Compassion

4 Jn. 6:5-9 - Great multitude - How do we feed them? - Phillip: 200 denarii too small - Andrew: boy with 5 loaves and 2 fish Compassion

5 Mk. 6:39-40 “Then He commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties.” 1 Cor. 14:40 “Let all things be done decently and in order.” Orderliness

10 Jn. 6:12-13 “So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost." Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. Conservation

13  Jesus can meet every need - Healed their sick – food for body - taught - Will supply our physical and spiritual needs Matt. 6; Rom. 8:28  Jesus can make use of what we have - Boy had a small amount of food - He records little things we do – Matt. 25:31 - Bring what we have Lessons Learned

14  Jesus worked in orderly manner - Sit down in companies of 50 and 100 - Order in teaching - Matt. 5:1 “he was set” - 1 Cor. 14:40  Jesus gave thanks for food - Jn. 6:11 - We should give thanks for our food Lessons Learned

15  Jesus taught a lesson on thrift - Gather up fragments - Nothing should be wasted - Use our possessions time talents Lessons Learned

16 Feeding the 5,000  Multitude – hungry for food - spiritual food  Disciples carried to people – we take gospel  Multiplied in hands of Jesus – our talents  Filled and satisfied – come to Christ
