4. Opening Clause: a group of words that contains a subject and a verb. There are two kinds of clauses: independent and dependent. Ex. Some students work in the food pantry because they care about helping hungry people.

7. Opening A dependent clause does not express a complete thought and cannot stand alone as a sentence. Dependent clauses depend on being connected to an independent clause to make sense. In other words – it is a fragment.
