Linear Algebra Unit Portfolio Presentation Stephanie Zub

Unit Summary Students will learn to identify linear equations, write them in slope intercept form, and graph them using a variety of methods. In addition, they will use linear graphing to model real world problems.

Curriculum-Framing Questions Essential Question What can math reveal? Unit Questions What do linear mathematical models reveal? How do you interpret and make predictions based on linear models? Content Questions How do you identify a linear equation? How do you identify the slope and y intercept? What does the slope tell us? What does the y-intercept tell us? How do you graph a linear equation… using a table? using slope intercept form? using a graphing calculator? How can we use linear equations to model real world situtations?

Linear Algebra This project will help my students develop 21 st century skills by: Collaborating with peers. Analyzing data about linear models and drawing conclusions to answer Unit Questions Solving problems and making decisions. Communicating with others in a wikki

Gauging Student Needs Assessment Purpose of the Assessments To gather information about what prior knowledge my students have regarding linear algebra and to measure what information they have gained from the units. How I have tried to promote higher-order thinking? I ask students to find relationships and draw conclusions regarding linear algebra. How the assessment information helps me and my students plan for upcoming activities in the unit? If students have misconceptions about how to set up experiments, I can provide scaffolds. If students have different levels of understanding about the importance of plants, I can provide various resources. We will revisit this assessment throughout the unit for students to add their knowledge. What feedback or additional ideas I’d like? I would like help on my assessment. I think I need to elicit more higher-order thinking, but I’m not sure how.

Find ways to get my students more interested in mathematics Learn about different kinds of technology my students and I can use To encourage my students to become independent learners. Share ideas with other teachers My Goals for the Course

Request for Feedback What went right and what went wrong? Ideas for helping students take more responsibility for their own learning
