R espect Self other students’ right to learn property Be honest and trustworthy Avoid rough play because it can lead to fighting (Keep your hands to yourself) O wnership school/personal property supplies ready (agenda, pencils, pencil sharpener, red pen, lined & graph paper, highlighter, binders) Report to class on time, prepared, and with completed homework Do your own work and avoid plagiarism C ooperation Follow all school rules Be courteous and cooperate with teachers and other authority figures Respect teachers’ right to teach Work together to solve problems K indness using appropriate language, volume, tone and attitude S afety think first, then act appropriate actions EXPECTATIONS FOR All STUDENTS

3 What to expect in 7 th Grade Academic Teams Expectations More Independence & Responsibility increase self advocating skills good attendance to maximize student achievement Homework Progress Reports every 4 ½ weeks Student Responsibility Getting to Class on time and prepared, Organization, keeping up with Locker, Turning in Work (all teachers have a late work policy ), Class Participation, and Learning the Material Academic Clubs and Sports Must have a physical Your Child is Developing & Changing

4 Prepare You Child for Middle School Talk your Child Listen to their concerns Accent the positive Discuss Appropriate Consequences Help them with Organization Chores, Shopping Lists, Room, Model Keep a time for family Agenda and long range planning Help Them with Social Skills Friendships Healthy Girl/Boy Relationships Talk with your Child’s Teachers Now is not the time for hands off Get to know your child’s counselor

5 The Challenge: Learning the Process Organization Locker Organization Notebook Organization Agenda Planner Teacher/Student/Parent Communication Long Range Planning (Projects, Papers) Hall pass Grading (Numerical and Letter Grade) A. Homework - Individual practice of concepts B. Class work & projects C. Tests/quizzes D. Grading Scale A 100-93 B 92-85 C 84-77 D 76-70 F 69 or below, Failing Note: Pluses (+) and minuses (-) will not be used.

6 Typical Day Bus Arrival Day starts at 8:25 am Tardy at 8:30 am Five Period Day All classes are graded Changing Classes 4 minutes between classes, plenty of time 3 tardies equals a detention Lunch and PA 23 minutes each Bus Dismissal Begins at 3:25 pm

7 7 th Grade Team Concept Each student is assigned to a team of 2 to 4 core teachers Each team teacher teaches one or two of the 4 core subjects (70 minute classes) –Language Arts (EOG tested) –Mathematics (EOG tested) –Science –Social Studies

10 Science Materials needed throughout the year Frog Dissections STEM Expo –topics your student is interested in earlier in the year –in it to win it make a tri board –in it for the grade make a PowerPoint –Judges needed you or someone you know with a science background

11 Social Studies Study Africa, Asia, Australia –physical environment and cultural characteristics –impact of interactions between humans and their physical environments –significant patterns in the movement of people, goods, and ideas over time and place –economic activity and the quality of life –historical events and contemporary issues –influence and contributions of individuals and cultural groups –different forms of government developed –compare the rights and civic responsibilities of individuals in political structures –common characteristics of different cultures –influence of major religions, ethical beliefs, and values on cultures –historic, economic, and cultural connections among North Carolina, the United States Guest speakers
