About 60% of the world’s population lives in Asia Home to the 2nd (China), 3rd (Japan), and 4th (India) biggest economies in the world Borders three oceans (Arctic [to the north], Indian [to the south], and Pacific [to the east])

Borders two oceans (Atlantic [to the west], and Indian [to the east]) Home to the world’s largest desert (Sahara) Home to the world’s longest river (Nile) Produces roughly 50% of the world’s diamonds Produces roughly 50% of the world’s gold Is home to roughly 10% of the world’s known oil supply Why did so many nations from other continents fight for control of land on this continent?

Located in the Southern Hemisphere Borders the Pacific Ocean (to the west), and the Atlantic Ocean (to the east) Two main languages spoken: Spanish and Portuguese Home to the largest river in the world (Amazon River), and the world’s largest tropical rainforest (Amazon)

7 Antarctica 5th largest continent in the world Made up of ice
Summer temperatures average about -30 degrees…in the summer!! It is so cold, dry, and barren, that no one lives there permanently (only scientific bases)

8 Europe 6th largest continent (2nd smallest)
Has been the center of much of Western Civilization throughout the history of mankind Is designated as a continent (for political reasons), but it is actually a peninsula Borders the Atlantic Ocean (to the west), and the Arctic Ocean (to the north)

9 Australia Smallest continent in the world
Only continent that is also an island Australia is bordered by three oceans: the Indian (to the west), Pacific (to the east), and Southern (to the south)
