3. This is a challenging landscape for policing and crime reduction and all our efforts are aimed at making Lewisham a safer place for residents and visitors. We are ambitious for our young people and communities.

FYTD Figures for April - December 2012: KEC down 33.1% (265 compared to 396 crime) Personal Robbery down 22.4% (671 compared to 865 crimes) Serious Youth Violence down 55% Gun enabled up 9.7% (79 compared to 72 crimes) FYTD Figures for April - June 13: KEC up 7.1% (30 compared to 28 crimes) Personal Robbery down 17.2% (87 compared to 103 crimes) Serious Youth Violence up 108% (12 to 25 crimes) Gun enabled 0.0% (9 compared to 9 crimes)

5. SLP Strategic Priorities for 2013/14 Reducing key crimes with particular reference to Serious Youth Violence and Violence against women and girls Ensuring all public services work collaboratively and with communities to prevent crime, support victims and reduce re- offending and improving confidence across all criminal justice agencies. Ensuring the issue of greatest concern to residents, Anti Social Behaviour (ASB), is dealt with swiftly, proportionately and with the victim at the heart of finding a resolution.

Update – good practice Youth Citizens Panel Assess funding bids i.e. Positive Activities fund Restorative justice approach in schools – through Troubled Families Ongoing work with Trilogy Plus (exiting gangs multi agency programme) Reduction in first time entrants into the Criminal Justice system in partnership working with police, youth services, early intervention work and YOS. Launch of the victims pledge in summer 2012 Continued work on Youth MARAC supporting young victims of serious youth Violence Excellent partnership work in targeted geographical areas Good services available for young people who need to access substance misuse services City safe havens roll out 10,000 Hands Making Lewisham Safe.

8. Key challenges Spikes in knife crime and serious violence The Trident Gang Crime Command has responsibility for tackling gang violence and the prevention and investigation of all shootings in London, regardless of the victim’s background. The Trident ‘Time to Talk’ Report dated December 2011 noted that (statistics relate 2010-2011): o 51% of non fatally shot victims were unwilling to assist in Trident investigations with evidence o For the year 2010 to 2011 33% of all shooting victims were from the 15-19 age group (second highest against 20-24 year olds at 35%) The statistic on non-cooperation is further emphasised: o Of the 51% of non fatal shooting victims unwilling to support Trident with evidence, of these 78% were aged 15-24 years and 83% were black o During the same period 70% of shooting victims were under the age of 25 and 76% were black
