Sign up is the end of January If you do paper session, whole paper must be done at end of January Next mandatory meeting is next week—Monday before school or Thursday after school. Please respond to the e-mail invites you got and decline one and accept the other.

2. Peer Edit of Paper so far Purpose- “The purpose of this experiment is to determine the effect of _______on______.” – Actual IV and DV should be used – Then they should explain the reason why the experiment is important

3. Hypothesis-”If _________then______” – This statement will likely be long. – By just reading the hypothesis, what is done in the experiment should be clear. – After the prediction is made, the reasons why should be explained.

4. Variables section – Independent variable – Dependent variable – Constants (most important ones)

5. Review of Literature Topics that should be covered: – Why the research is important? – Information about the test subject that is pertinent – Information needed about the independent variable – Information needed about how to measure the dependent variable – Previous research related to topic. – Citations need to be included. (name, date) for most.

6. Next steps Easy stuff – Add the title page—Title should be “The Effect of ________on _________:” – Add the acknowledgments section—Whoever you need to thank. Include anyone who helped you and why – Citations—In alphabetical order and proper format – Safety sheet and any important endorsements Find these on the IJAS website

7. Procedure Add a step by step procedure. Someone else should be able to repeat your experiment Write this BEFORE you do your experiment. You can change the procedure if it differs when you actually do the experiment.

8. Doing your experiment Keep a lab notebook Follow all safety precautions Do as many trials as possible Keep track of data meticulously Take pictures – if you do the experiment at home, I need to see pictures. – Use pictures on your poster board
