PowerPoint Template – delete this slide Fill in the appropriate slides Remove any bold or italicized words after you’ve added your changes Delete slides that say, “delete this slide” when you are ready to submit After you’ve filled out the template, then you may add themes, colors and animations. Remember, animations should not deter from the flow of the presentation

PowerPoint - delete this slide DUE January 13 to teacher via Email. Presentations will be January 14-16 You will be presenting in front of the class You may use cards to help you present your powerpoint PowerPoint Presentation is worth 50 pts of quarter 3 grade Minimum font size is 24 point No Personal Pronouns!

Science Fair Title Name Period Teacher High School Category

Introduction Should be multiple paragraphs composed of a minimum of 5-7 sentences Should start with an attention grabber which can include interesting facts and a problem today that is related to it. Make sure to include the purpose, hypothesis, problem, and an explanation of what prompted your research. Explain ideas that will help the reader understand what is occurring in your experiment. Make sure to identify the variables. Make sure to conclude with your thesis & hypothesis. Refine your background research paper if needed.

Introduction Continued

Research Question How does the (IV) affect the (DV)?

Hypothesis The hypothesis should be a statement that is related to the research question and should be an if/then/because statement. Template options are below but don’t have to be used: 1.It is hypothesized that there is a describe type of (positive, negative) correlation between IV and DV because describe research that supports prediction. 2.The hypothesis for this research project is that IV will cause a significant change in DV because describe research that supports prediction. 3.If the IV & describe how IV will change, then the DV will describe the effect because describe research that supports prediction. 4.It is hypothesized that IV will result in DV because describe research that supports prediction. 5.If IV and how it is changed then DV prediction because describe research that supports prediction. 6.As the IV increases/decreases, the DV increases/decreases because describe research that supports prediction.

Variables The independent variable for the experiment was (list IV). The (if categorical, 3-5) levels of the independent variable were: –- The dependent variable for the experiment was (list DV) and was measured in/by (list metric units).

Variables: Controlled variables for the experiment were: (list at least 4 controlled variables): –- (If applicable) The control for the experiment was (list control or describe the setup of the control).

Materials The materials should be listed, very specific, and aligned with the procedures. Include quantities. Make sure units are in metric units. You may include pictures of your materials. Can use two columns or just one. Change layout if you need just one column.

Methods Procedures should be listed step-by-step. You should be able to visualize the experiment as you read the procedures. Make sure you include the metric units No personal pronouns Remember to indicate how each level is being tested Remember to indicate to repeat testing for each level (trials). Include any formulas, setting up procedures or creating of substances here that are not related to the actual testing for the experiment Also include safety guidelines and safety symbols. You may include pictures or diagrams of the setup of materials. 1.- 2.-

Methods continued Delete this slide if it is not needed Copy this slide if there are more procedures

Data Table You should have a clearly labeled data table for this section. (Copy and paste here from Excel) If you have multiple tables use multiple slides. You can change the title of the slide to the title of the data table.

Data Table Continued Delete slide if it is not needed Copy this slide if you have more data tables

Graph – (Level 1 of IV) You should have a clearly labeled graph for this section. (Copy and paste here from Excel) Include one graph per slide Rename title of this slide to relate to your graph

Graph – (Level 2 of IV)

Graph – (Level 3 of IV) If more graph slides are needed, copy this slide and rename the slide title

Provide title for scientific picture here Click icon above to add scientific picture Include short explanations of pictures below in this text box. Copy this slide as needed

Scientific Pictures with Researcher Add the pictures of you + the experiment here. Make sure there are not any slides besides this one with you in the picture This slide will be deleted when it is presented to the final judges

Discussion of Results The data showed that (using sentence format, describe the trend/relationships observed in your actual data). If using categories - Use actual average data for each level of your IV if you had categories. Compare differences between averages. Calculate standard deviation of the data to see if the difference between categories was significant. If something was measured over time - describe the trend of the line graph. Compare rates of change using final time or time intervals. Graph rates of change as bar graphs and compare using standard deviation. If there was a correlation between the variables, regression calculations should be presented.

Discussion of Results Although the experiment was controlled, there were still some possible sources of error. The errors identified are: 1.- 2.- 3.- For the future, (state what may be changed to reduce or remove these errors)

Conclusion Analysis of the results revealed that (describe claim that can be made based on the analysis of the data including calculations of averages, rate of change, etc.). The hypothesis was (supported or refuted). (If supported) This happened because (give explanation). (If refuted) This occurred because (give scientific reasons why if was refuted or wrong).

Application The results from this experiment (indicate how your results can impact or relate to real life situations. Who would care about this research and how would it influence them).

Future Research Future studies could focus on (future research question. Make sure to highlight the IV and DV in the question). This could be tested by repeating the same experiment, except (briefly explain how it would be different). This would be useful to determine _____ because ______. (remove underlines and complete with your responses)

Future Research Another problem that could be investigated is (future research question the effect of IV on DV). This could be answered by (briefly explain) The implications of this research would be of interest to _____ (remove underlines and complete with your responses).

References Your references should include at least 5 sources that support your research. This should include websites, books, magazines, periodicals etc. Must be in APA format Pictures and diagrams taken from the internet need to be cited as well.

Abstract – Use multiple slides if necessary 150-250 words to address the following What was the purpose of the project? What was the hypothesis? What was the prior research that supported the hypothesis? How was the relationship between the variables determined? Summarize the results during the experiment. Was the hypothesis supported or refuted? Why refuted?

Abstract Continued Cut and paste part of your abstract here Copy this page if you need another slide Delete this page if it is not necessary
