3 1996- Hispanic Business magazine Published its first Hispanic Business Rich list documenting at least 11 hispanic entrepreneurs and corporate leaders whose net worth was $100 million or more – Top of the list was Coca-Cola CEO Roberto C. Goizueta – Behind Goizueta was Joseph A. Unanue and family( owners of Goya Foods)

6 1951- Viguie Film Productions First large Puerto Rican film producer Founded by Juan Emilio Viguie Cajas Jr. and journalist Manuel R. Navas 1974- changed names and became Guastella Film Producers, currently the largest producer in Puerto Rico

7 1952- Actor Anthony Quinn First Mexican American to win the Academy Award for best actor for his role as Zapata’s brother in Viva Zapata! Won a second Academy Award for Lust for Life (1956) Written his autobiography called The Original Sin (1972) (look over all his movies)

14 1972- Los Vendidos Luis Valdez and El Teatro Campesino First nationally televised Chicano feature film It may also be considered the first Chicano feature film

15 1975- National Latino Communications Center (NLCC) Original name was the Latino Consortium Founded to sponsor Latino-theme programming on television Today is a completely independent non-profit corporation

16 1978- Nestor Almendros Spanish Cuban cinematographer First hispanic to win the oscar for best cinematography Won academy award for cinematography for Days of Heaven Author of an important autobiographical book on cinematography A man with a Camera

17 1978- Agueda Martinez This documentary was the first Chicano film nominated for an Academy Award By Esperanza Vazquez and Moctezuma Esparza Depicts lifestyle of an elderly woman in northern New Mexico

18 1979- award-winning El Super First Cuban American film comedy Based on the play by Ivan Acosta Deals with Cuban American culture shock El Super launched the career of Elizabeth Pena- first American Hollywood actress in contemporary times – She’s been in Down and Out in Beverly hills(1986), and La Bamba(1987)

19 1981- Seguin By Jesus Salvador Trevino The first Chicano western film First hispanic version of the fall of the Alamo since depicted on the screen in 1911
