1 Planning for Surrealism Objective: You will use brainstorming and thumbnail sketches in order to make a plan for you surreal artwork. DRILL: 1.List 20 + random objects. (Use your power poem ideas, symbolism, and the object image packets) 2.Which 5 or more objects will you draw in your surreal artwork? 3.How will you make it look surreal? (transformation, juxtaposition, reversal of natural law, or super-impose) 4.Draw a horizon line and make at least one sketch before you get on good paper.

6 Surrealism Criteria: 1.5 objects at least- look at your power poem for ideas, what objects ? ___________________ 2.Looks surreal- which technique(s) do you want to use? 3.Has a 3D element- Assemblage, sculpture, relief, or collage. 4.Has symbolism and tells a story (narrative) 5.Has a horizon line/ depth 6.Look at images to draw some objects.

7 Draw a plan: You plan should have: –A horizon line –A minimum of 5 objects –Meaning/ symbolism for the objects –It should look SURREAL

8 Objective: You will describe and define surreal techniques in order to apply them to your surreal artwork. DRILL part 1: A. List 3 reasons that this artwork is surreal: 1. 2. 3. B. What 7 objects might you use in yours?

17 Reversal of Natural Law: Rebelling against natural laws. What are some laws of nature? *Gravity. Unless you have wings, gravity holds you on the ground. *Size Butterflies are small, etc… *Traditional make up of objects… depending on their nature. Skin, wood, etc… House made of brick… *Eyes are on creatures… Not mountains or hands.
