1 The Greek Pantheon Pantheon - the gods of a particular mythology considered collectively The Greek pantheon consists of numerous gods and goddess. There are a small number of major gods and as well as many minor gods. The roles of the gods sometimes changed over time.

2 The Olympians Named for their home on Mount Olympus
They are also know as the dodekatheon (dodeka = twelve; theo = Gods) These are the twelve principal gods, though different sources from different periods list different gods as beign among the twelve Olympians

3 The Major Gods Zeus (Jupiter):
King of the gods and ruler of Mount Olympus God of the sky and thunder Symbols: thunderbolt, eagle, oak tree, scepter, scales Hera (Juno): Queen of the gods Goddess of marriage and family Symbols: peacock, pomegranate, crown, cuckoo, lion, cow

God of the seas, earthquakes, and horses Symbols: horse, bull, dolphin, trident Dionysus (Bacchus): God of wine, celebrations, and ecstasy Patron god of the art of theater Symbols: grapevine, ivy, cup, tiger, panther, leopard, dolphin, goat

God of the light, music, poetry, prophecy, and archery Symbols: the sun, lyre, bow and arrow, raven, dolphin, wolf, swan, mouse Twin brother of Artemis Artemis (Diana): Goddess of the hunt, archery, and all animals Symbols: the moon, deer, hound, bear, snake, cypress tree, bow and arrow

God of the commerce and thieves Symbols: the caduceus (staff entwined by two snakes), winged sandals and cap, stork, tortoise Athena (Minerva): Goddess of wisdom, handicrafts, defense, and all strategic warfare Arose fully grown from Zues’ head Symbols: owl, olive tree

Hated by all the other gods Symbols: the boar, serpent, dog, vulture, spear and shield Aphrodite (Venus): Goddess of love, beauty, and desire Symbols: the dove, bird, apple, bee, swan, myrtle, rose

God of the underworld and the riches under the Earth Symbols: the three-headed dog Cerberus, the Helm of Darkness (which made him invisible) Hestia (Vesta): Goddess of the hearth and the right ordering of domesticity and the family Symbols: the hearth, kettle, torch, candle, broom, crane, pig, donkey

God of the wild, shepherds and flocks, of mountain wilds, hunting, and rustic music Symbols: the pan pipes or pan flute Persephone (Proserpina): Queen of the underworld Goddess of the springtime Symbols: mint, poppy, pomegranate, young grain, flowers
