9 But the Phantom wanted Christine for himself. In the end, he kidnapped her from the stage, in front of the whole audience. He took her down to his secret home on the lake. in the end = finally = at last 最後 take sb to some place 帶某人到某地 I’ll take you to the zoo tomorrow.

10 Only one man was brave enough to follow. He was Raoul, a young man who loved Christine. But the Phantom captured him and kept him in a prison, which was slowly filling with water. which 前面有逗號 ,引導非限定子句, 補述用法。 fill 可作及物動詞,亦可作不及物動詞。 He was filled with hope at the news. ( 及物動詞 ) Her eyes filled with tears. ( 不及物動詞 )

11 In the Phantom’s house, Christine pulled off his mask. She finally saw the real man, and his horrible face, with no nose and yellow eyes. with no nose and yellow eyes →which had no nose but had yellow eyes →having no nose but yellow eyes

18 Discussion1: If you were Christine, what would you do to the Phantom at the end of the story? Would you kiss him?

19 Reference answer: If I were Christine, I might not dare to kiss the Phantom since he had a horrible face, with no nose and yellow eyes. I would probably be frightened to death.

20 Discussion 2: Why did the Phantom finally release Christine and Raoul?
