2 What is a participle?  A participle is an adjective or complement  A verbal form used as an adjective  It may have a subject or an object, show tense  To participation in the action or state of verb  A word formed from a verb  Ex: Burning in a burning candle, devoted in his devoted friend, carrying in carrying the bricks

3 How to identify a participle The dog ran faster and faster down the hill. In this sentence ran is the participle Ran is the past participle because the dog did it in the past I am studying for the test. In this sentence studying is the present participle Studying is the present participle because I'm doing it in the present

4 Examples of participles  Example sentences: walking in "He is walking around the neighborhood", crawling in "She is crawling across the floor", running in "The dog is running across the field", raced in "They raced to the end of the finish line", ect.  Example words: Fell, walked, carried, ran, smacked, wrote, tripping, will fall  other examples are: Took, ate, Swept, and drove

5 Past,Present,and future participles There are three different kinds of participles,past, present, and future. Past, present, and future participles are just verbs that take place in the past, present, or future. A participle is just the time the verb took place. Past, present, and future participle is showing that the verb either was in the past present and future when it happened.

6 Past Participle  The past participle would be a verb that took place in the past. The past participle would show that the verb that you are using was something that happened before that day.  Here are some example words: Ran, Stood, Talked, Wrote, and Sat.  Here are some example sentences using the past participle: I drove to the store, She ran to the ducks, They scored the winning goal, ect. Any action verb that happened in the past would be a past participle

7 Present Participle  A present participle is a verb that takes place in present day.  For example: am running, Writing, Studying, Learning, and Screaming. Any action verb that happened I the present would be a present participle A present participle would be an action verb in the sentence that would've happened in the present Example sentences using present participles: I am walking to your house, I am studying for my test, I am eating my dinner

8 Future Participle  A future participle is a participle that takes place in the future  For example: Will fall, Will be tripped, Will break, or Will run. If you have an action verb that has to do with the future that that is a future participle. Example sentences: I am going to slap him, I am going to hide the key, I will ask her for help
