1 APUSH Prep Students will be able to cite evidence when making a claim or counter claim when answering the essential question “How does history help us understand relationships between societies past and modern?” during Socratic seminar. November 7, 2013

2 Bell Ringer 3 Minutes  How does an individual’s point of view affect the way they interpret history?

3 Homework for 11/13/2013  Chapter 7 Cornell Notes.  Create questions from the read headings in the text.  Only do the assigned section  All Cornell notes must be labeled according to S.P.R.I.T.E.  All Cornell Notes must conclude with a paragraph summary.  See website for assigned sections of the reading.

4 Aim  RI9.1-10.1 Cite strong and through evidence to support an analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.   W.9-10.1b Develop claim(s) and counter clams fairly, supplying evidence for each while pointing out the strengths, and limitations of both in manner that anticipates the audience’s knowledge level and concerns.

5 Word Study 2 minutes  Prostrate  augmentation

6 CHAMPS  C=conversation, we will be sharing out during group discussion, be RESPECTFUL do not speak over one another and be an active listener. We will be using name tents to ensure equity!  H=help, please raise your hand  A=activity, completing Socratic Seminar  M=movement, we are not.  P=participation means no heads down, no cell phones, we are reading and writing.

7 Name Tent 5 minutes  Create a name tent  Folder paper in 3  Write your name  List what topic in history is of most interest to you in the top right hand corner

8 Socratic Seminar 35 minutes  Socratic Seminar topic “How does history help us understand relationships between societies past and modern?” using evidence from Zinn, Jefferson and Hamilton.

9 Exit Ticket 5 Minutes  Communicating is our ATL for the quarter how can Socratic seminar as a skill help us outside of this classroom?
