4. BTOP Background 82 mostly rural Counties  Over 1700 miles of new middle mile fiber  An additional 800 miles of leases Funded direct fiber and CPE to 52 LEA’s 4

5. Current Status Round 1  Project as Initially Funded complete  451 Miles of new fiber construction in southwestern and southeastern NC  NTIA funded 100G core backbone complete with savings from round 1 project; this work benefits every NCREN constituent 5

Current Status Round 2  96% complete on conduit construction; less than 60 miles of conduit remain to be constructed  First Corridor from Charlotte-Wilmington Active  Deployment Activities for Equipment Will Continue at least through May  Migrations will be ongoing through July, but most will complete by first of summer 6

LEA Considerations Bandwidth Growth on NCREN will require changes at the edge; greater than 1G capability at the LAN edge (firewall, content filtering) Growth at the edge will necessitate internal network upgrades for WAN connectivity and it’s bandwidth requirements How can your teachers take advantage of the greater bandwidth to impact teaching and learning Leverage our CNE team to help with these discussions as warranted 10

11. What if Direct Fiber Wasn’t Built to My District DPI will continue to monitor your bandwidth growth and initiate upgrades as appropriate Upgrades may take a bit longer, but will eventually be performed We’ll continue to look at opportunities to expand our fiber footprint 11
