At your desk: 1. Math Journal 2. Planner 3. Homework By the end of class today: -You will be able to fluently write mixed numbers as improper fractions & - improper fractions as mixed numbers Life lessons: Be Present- Minded Be Committed to Excellence Be a Positive Force Take Action!

Homework Check ONE team member, retrieve answer key and green team bucket. 1. As a team, check homework answers. 2.Make changes to homework as needed and LEARN how to find the correct answer by TALKING to your TEAM! **** REMEMBER everyone makes mistakes! **** ****That is HOW we LEARN! ****

3. Read the Homework Rubric. 4. List everyone’s Name on the Homework sheet, and shade in your correct color. 5. Write any unanswered questions on the back of the rubric. 6.Turn In your TEAM’s rubric and return materials. Homework Check

Complete Warm-Up in journal Write each fraction in simplest form. 1. 2. 3. 4.

Lesson: Write mixed numbers as improper fractions. Write improper fractions as mixed numbers. Follow along on page 8 Title the top of your journal page

Vocabulary Mixed Number The sum of a whole number and a fraction less than 1. Improper Fraction A fraction with a numerator that is greater than or equal to its denominator.

Rewriting Mixed Numbers as Improper Fractions 1.Multiply the whole number by the denominator. 2.Add the numerator to the product. 3.Write this number as the numerator and keep the original denominator as the denominator of the improper fraction.

Example 1 Write as an improper fraction. Multiply the whole number by the5(6) = 30 denominator. Add the numerator to the product.1 + 30 = 31 Write the improper fraction as the total over the original denominator.

Lesson/Activity: Remember: Page 9Page 9 Team RelayTeam Relay You will be able to fluently write mixed numbers and improper fractions

Relay Coach and Mathlete Roles Coach Reads the instructions and/or questions to partner Uses words to help your mathlete Don’t over-coach! Help only when needed. Be your mathlete’s precision police! Mathlete Is the keeper and user of the equipment (pencil paper) Does all the writing Takes the card up to the scorer. Gives feedback to their coach on how they did

Relay Working with a partner, determine who is the Coach and who is the Mathlete for the first card. The Mathlete should have the writing utensil. Following your roles, complete the first card. When finished bring up the card to the scorer. If you are correct (and followed Precision Police guidelines), you will receive the next relay card. Hand off the card to your partner and switch roles. If you are incorrect, the scorer will give you a hint on what you did incorrectly. Return to your coach and continue to work. Bring up the card when ready.

Rewriting Improper Fractions as Mixed Numbers 1.Divide the numerator by the denominator. The quotient is the whole number in the mixed number. 2.Write the remainder as the numerator over the original denominator. This is the fraction in the mixed number.

Example 2 Write as a mixed number. Divide the numerator by the denominator. Write the mixed number with both the whole number and the fraction. Whole number = 3 Put the remainder over the original denominator. Fraction =
