6. Vocabulary Least Common Multiple The smallest non-zero multiple that is common to two or more numbers. Least Common Denominator The least common multiple of two denominators.

7. Example 1 a.Find the least common multiple of 8 and 12: One method for finding the least common multiple is to list out the multiples of each number until the same number appears on each list. Multiples of 8: 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, … Multiples of 12: 12, 24, 36, 48, … The LCM is 24.

8. Example 1 Continued… b.Find the least common multiple of 4 and 5: Another method to find the LCM is to choose the largest number, in this case 5, and look at its multiples. Multiples of 5: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, … Find the smallest multiple that 4 divides into evenly. 5 – NO 10 – NO 15 – NO 20 – YES (20  4 = 5) The LCM is 20.
