Revitalizing Your Spirit for Nursing Sandi Thorson, RN

What did you think? 30,000 mornings 86,400 seconds in 24 hours

My Passion

2010 – A Year of new Beginnings  My first Magnet convention  Involvement in  Committees  Organization  Community

 You are more than “just a” nurse!

 Esther’s story  Alissa’s story  Gert’s story

 “Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.”  -Theodore Roosevelt

Burnout  Take care of yourself  Allow yourself time  Confide in a colleague or friend  Go for a walk or to the gym to relieve stress  Enjoy music  Notice and enjoy the things around you  Find a mentor

Become a beginner again  “Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don’t.”  Leo Buscaglia  Imagine life as a child and looking at everything as though you are seeing it for the first time.

Take work seriously, but not yourself  Encourage individuals to adopt a playful attitude  Laugh with but not at people  Work with colleagues who have a sense of humor

Sam

Three things we should do everyday  Laugh every day  Spend some time in thought  Have your emotions moved to tears of happiness or joy

 What does a perfect day look like?

How do you plan your time?  Try planning on your dreams

 Don’t be afraid to take risks.  Don’t stop being curious.  Making mistakes is okay.

 Do you know where you are on your journey in life?

 Someday is not a day of the week.

 Why?  Because

The Jar  The river rocks represent the most important things in your life, such as your ethics, your family, your loved ones and your health. Even if you lost everything else, your life would still be full with these important things in it.  The pebbles are the things in our lives that are pretty important – but our happiness should not depend on them. These are things such as our job, house or car.  The sand represents everything else – the small, busy things that we do in our lives.  If we fill our jar up with sand first, then we don’t have room for the river rocks or pebbles. If we fill our lives with just the small or busy stuff, we won’t have any room for the things that mean the most to us.

My new passion

 For the past 30 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “no” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.  Steve Jobs
