Buckinghamshire County Council Key principles Schools need to implement a clear, consistent and shared understanding of Quality First teaching (QFT) QFT is central to effective mainstreaming of gifted and talented (G&T) provision All teachers are accountable for the quality of teaching in their lessons. They have a responsibility to ensure that barriers to academic achievement and longer-term success of their pupils are identified and reduced through a whole-school focus on QFT

Buckinghamshire County Council Objectives To reflect on effective approaches for working with other teachers To explore how to share with colleagues the impact of effective practice in the leading teacher’s own classroom To explore strategies for effective collaborative CPD with a focus on effective G&T provision in the classroom and developing QFT

Buckinghamshire County Council About this session... This session is about: reflecting on how you can use examples of effective teaching and learning from your own classroom practice (identified in workshop 1) to work with colleagues using these examples as a stimulus, exploring strategies for working collaboratively and supporting school colleagues in planning and implementing similar approaches in their classrooms Shared reflection will be a key part of this cycle, resulting in evidence of impact for dissemination across the school There will be two activities to work through

Buckinghamshire County Council Reflecting on effective CPD support What approaches have you used for engaging/supporting staff to develop their classroom practice? Has this included using your own practice as a basis for supporting colleagues? What has worked well and how do you know?

Buckinghamshire County Council Activity 2: Four parts 1.Developing teachers’ confidence in providing challenge 2.Collaborative planning and review model 3.Developing learning conversations for staff 4.Using a lesson study approach to enquiry

Buckinghamshire County Council Activity 3: QFT Resources: handout 2.5 and handout 2.6 Review the characteristics of QFT and account of practice in science and agree: –Which aspects of practice from Activity 1 does this confirm? –What new ideas are worth exploring further? Sum up what they think is their school’s view of QFT Identify key messages about development of QFT in the school

Buckinghamshire County Council Next steps How can you support colleagues to focus on G&T so that this focus supports excellence for all and school-wide improvement of teaching and learning? What will your role be? Who do you need to talk to? What do you need to say? How/when will you start? How will you overcome any barriers/difficulties? Who/what will help you?

Buckinghamshire County Council Key Messages You don’t have to be perfect to lead! Learn alongside others Select the colleagues to work with carefully You need the back-up from the School Development Plan
