1 How can we make mental health services better for people with a Learning Disability? Stephen Day Director of Adults’ Services

2 Some people with learning disabilities need help and support from mental health services. They may need help from: - A psychiatrist - A mental health nurse - A social worker Help offered may include: - Being treated in a mental health hospital – in Ealing called John Conoly Wing. - Medication. - Talking therapy.

3 The Traffic Light System Last year in Ealing we looked at gaps in services for people with a learning disability using mental health services….

4 The Traffic Light System We found that: People with learning disabilities have a poor experience of services. Services were not working well together. We need to make services better.

5 They will: Agree two main areas for action that will make services better. Talk to service users about what improvements they would like to see. Agree a plan to implement improvements. Appoint a Project/Clinical Lead will take the work forward. Mental Health Services will make things better in 2009/10:

6 Monitor and Checking To establish how we might measure the success of the 2 priorities Monitor and check work Feedback to Service User Groups Agree on the next steps…….
