2 Bullying is any severe or pervasive physical or verbal act(s) or conduct, including electronic communications committed by a pupil(s) that can include: Reasonable fear of harm to person or property. Substantially detrimental effect on physical or mental health. Substantial interference with academic performance. Interference with the ability to participate in or benefit from school services, activities or privileges.

3 Hazing This is a method of initiation or pre-initiation into a pupil organization, which is likely to cause serious bodily injury, personal degradation, or disgrace resulting in physical or mental harm to a student.

4 Types of Bullying Cyberbullying- texting, on-line (Facebook, Tweeting….) Indirect bullying- intimidation or peer pressure Non-verbal bullying- threatening gestures, staring, stalking, graffiti or graphic images, destruction of property Physical bullying- intentional, unwelcome acts of beating, biting, fighting, hitting, kicking, poking, punching, pushing, shoving, spitting and tripping Social/Relational bullying- spreading rumors, manipulating relationships, exclusion, blackmailing, isolating….

5 Verbal bullying Hurtful gossiping, making rude noises, name- calling, spreading rumors & teasing Discrimination Sexual Harassment Hostile Environment Harassment

7 Responsibilities Student Do not participate or contribute to bullying or hazing Treat everyone with respect Report it Do not retaliate Teacher/Staff Model appropriate behavior Recognize the indicators of bullying/ hazing Discuss strategies to prevent bullying/hazing Encourage students to report bullying/hazing Intervene immediately & report complaints or incidents to admin.

8 Confidentiality & Non-retaliation All reports handled confidentially District will not tolerate retaliation against any reporter or person who participates in the investigation process.
