2  You have learned that authors of nonfiction texts organize their ideas in certain ways called text structures.  One kind of text structure is compare and contrast.  In compare and contrast, the author shows how two or more ideas are alike and different.  When you recognize this structure in nonfiction texts, you can better understand what you read! Remember: Compare= alike Contrast= different

3 Land snails and sea snails look similar. Both types of snails have spiral shells that protect their soft bodies. However, land snails have lungs instead of gills, which let them breathe air. Sea snails and land snails both need moisture to survive. Land snails produce mucus that keeps them from drying out, but sea snails get the moisture they need from the ocean.
