3 3 Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Intermediate Licence Course Clive Ward G1EUC Slide Set 10 (2) Licence Conditions Rules Conditions are laid down in BR68/I Amateur Radio (Intermediate) Licence Terms, Provisions and Limitations Booklet Higher license grades have their own version of BR68 Contacts must only be with other licensed amateurs Rights, rules, inspection and Close Down etc are all ultimately on the authority of the Secretary of State Radiocommunications Agency acts on his/her behalf You must hold a current validation document for the station to be used. If it is not renewed, your privileges are revoked until it is.

4 4 Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Intermediate Licence Course Clive Ward G1EUC Slide Set 10 (2) Licence Conditions Rules-2 No public broadcasting, speeches, music etc Licensees may use codes and abbreviations to assist communication, but they must not obscure the meaning Licensees must personally use their station. Other amateurs must operate it under their own callsign (eg /P) Any change of address must be notified in advance in writing Operation on Maritime vessels and aircraft is not permitted –Canal boats are ok!

5 5 Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Intermediate Licence Course Clive Ward G1EUC Slide Set 10 (2) Licence Conditions Rules-3 When operating from a temporary location, your location within 5km must be given every 30 minutes The main address is as per your validation document A temporary address /P means a fixed location other than your validation document address e.g 2E0QQQ/P Mobile /M means located in the UK in any vehicle, as a pedestrian, or any vessel in inland waters e.g 2E0QQQ/M Transmissions should be limited to matters relating to technical investigations and remarks of a personal nature The station must not be used for business or advertising purposes

6 6 Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Intermediate Licence Course Clive Ward G1EUC Slide Set 10 (2) Licence Conditions Checking for Harmonics & Spurious Emissions “Licensees must carry out tests from time to time to ensure that the Station is not causing undue interference.” You can use a wavemeter Another receiver that covers the frequencies to be tested, with a dummy load A friend More experienced local club amateurs The club may have a spectrum analyser! Make notes. You should log these notes to comply with the conditions of your licence

8 8 Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Intermediate Licence Course Clive Ward G1EUC Slide Set 10 (2) Licence Conditions Logbooks All licensees must keep a permanent record of all transmissions at main address and when /P :- The LOG Logbooks must not be loose-leaf, nor have gaps. Electronic Logging must have magtape, disc etc backed up Need to record Date, Time in UTC (ie GMT), Frequency Band, Mode and Power, Callsigns of stations worked, and own location if /P. Logs must be kept and made available for inspection by a person authorised by the Secretary of State, for at least 6 months. Must have current validation documents Must avoid interference and carry out tests from time to time.

9 9 Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Intermediate Licence Course Clive Ward G1EUC Slide Set 10 (2) Licence Conditions BR68/I Licencing: Unattended Operation Beacons, direction finding competitions, remote control of the main station and Digital Comms. Seven days notice must be given with details of location, power frequency etc to the RA Your callsign must be sent either in either Morse or voice at least every 30 minutes during transmissions Note the BR68/I restrictions on frequency/power for unattended operation Log must record Exact Frequency for unattended operation
