6 Types of Nouns: Proper vs. Common
Common nouns – names any one of a group of persons, places, things, or ideas and is generally not capitalized. Proper nouns = specific, particular. Name a person, place, thing, and idea. Name a proper noun for each common noun below: scientist woman city building continent day

7 Abstract vs. Concrete Nouns
Concrete: can be perceived by 1+ senses. examples: cloud, poison ivy, thunder, silk, yogurt, Sarah Abstract: an idea, feeling, quality, or characteristic that can’t be touched. Intangible. freedom, well-being, beauty, kindness, Buddhism

8 Compound Nouns Def: 2+ words used together as a single noun (one word, separate words, hyphenated word). One Word: Firefighter, Iceland, newspaper Separate Words: prime minister, Gulf of Mexico, fire drill Hyphenated Word: sister-in-law, Port-au-Prince, pull-up

9 Collective Nouns Definition: a word that names a group of people, animals, or things. Give examples of the 3 categories: People: audience, chorus, committee, crew Animals: ___ of wolves, ____ of cows, gaggle of ____, ___ of fish. Things: Assortment, batch, bundle, cluster
