2. Marco polo Marco Polo was an explorer. He and his father and uncle set out on a boat to explore. They went through Asia and they found a place called China. They stayed there for 17 years before returning to their home town of Venice, Italy.

3. Christopher Columbus He went to sea at the age of 13 and he ended up in Portugal by mistake. He persuaded king Ferdinand to give him money to go exploring. He owned three ships the Pinto, the Santa Maria and the Nina. He discovered America while looking for a new route to China.

4. Sir Walter Raliegh Sir Walter Raliegh was from France. He was a friend of the Queen of England, Elizabeth 1 st. Sir Walter Raliegh was the first person to bring potatoes back to England.

5. Vasco da Gama He was born in Sines in Portugal in 1460. He help Portugal become rich and famous. Vasco Da Gama is known as the discoverer of India.
