2. The Travels of Marco Polo Hello, I am Marco Polo, an explorer and author from Venice, Italy. I began my travels in 1260 and didn’t return home until 1295. My goal was to travel from Italy to China in search of spices and other riches that Asia had to offer. During my travels I spent time in China, Thailand, Japan, Java, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, just to name a few places. It seems as though the accounts of my explorations are known as the most famous travel guide in history. My stories of spice and other riches in Asia have encouraged others to travel and explore. Vasco da Gama and Christopher Columbus are two who took my advice.
