8 Essilor International Copyright – Strictly Confidential Strategic Marketing / GBL Designs Varilux ® Live Optics: Four Stages 1 - Human Vision Research The fundamental research on living systems collects physiological, biometrical and behavioral data drawing specifications that are compliant with visual and postural needs of each person. It is done in a multi-sensory way through digital techniques; 3D Virtual Reality and design simulations. 3 - Prototyping Test lenses are custom-cut through digital surfacing and the design reliability is controlled through advanced techniques combining 3D measurements and wavefront analyses. The whole prototyping process applies the precision of 1/10th of micron. 2 - Computing The collected individual data is digitally converted through mathematical algorithms into optical designs. To calculate high-performance designs, patented computation programs and successive optimizations use the most advanced technologies such as W.A.V.E. 2.0 to eliminate higher-order aberrations. 4 - Testing The test-wearers try out their custom-made lenses. To ensure the reliability of results, the tests are conducted exploring large databases.
