3 Today’s Agenda Update on 3D-printing of tops Change in plans: stay in SE-45  Excel works on laptops (no licensing issues)  Further demo on using MS Excel Begin in-class group project  Will continue next week  May extend to week 11 (after spring recess) 3 Note: there will be at least one more pop quiz next week

4 MS Excel Learned the basics on Monday  Text vs. Numbers vs. Formulas  A formula may include a Function Formula may contain Reference Main Point: a few simple actions can be used for extensive data manipulation 4

5 MS Excel: New Ideas Relative reference vs. Absolute  A “$” before column/row tells you that it’s not going to change if copied and pasted  Otherwise, formula keeps same relative position to ref Importing data Splitting and freezing panes Making a chart  Pick right type for your data (bar, XY scatter)  Process changes greatly depending on edition  Basic Idea: chart as placeholder, put data sets in to chart one by one 5 Demo up front with sample files

7 Deliverable: Excel File & 1-page report  I will only accept submissions after I verify file authenticity in person  Groups of 3-4: all names in spreadsheet and filename Basics  Data manipulation  Start with *.txt file on course websitecourse website Goals  Convert current and voltage to power  Find maximum power  Plot as XY scatter  Properly format chart as new page  Paste / export chart to report as image Details on report forthcoming 7
