1 1.What are your plans for after graduation? 2.What are the requirements to get into your school of choice? OR What do you have to do this year to make sure those plans are achievable? Target: I can reflect on my past and present in order to connect to others.

2 Directions: Decide whether you believe the following statements are TRUE or FALSE. 1.The purpose of this essay is to see you as a person, not a list of statistics from your transcript. 2.Your essay should focus on more than one theme or topic. 3.If the essay prompt says no more than 1,000 words it is okay to exceed that limit by 100 words. Target: I can reflect on my past and present in order to connect to others.

3 Directions: Use your notes from yesterday to help you answer the questions below. 1.What is the purpose of a college essay? 2.What is your take away from yesterday’s notes? What do you think is the most important information you learned about the college essay? Target: I can analyze the author’s choice of details and how they support the theme of a text.

4 1.Write one thing you learned or realized after reading the college essay examples yesterday. What did you take away most from seeing those examples? 2.What is the essay prompt you are choosing to write about? Write it as the response to your question. Target: I can reflect on my past and present in order to connect to others.

5 Define the following terms. You may use your own words or use your phone to help you find the definitions. Remember to look for the definitions that apply to literature. 1.What is characterization? 2.What is diction? 3.What is imagery? Target: I can analyze and evaluate the author’s use of literary devices and elements to create meaning.

6 1.What makes a bad hook bad? 2.What makes a good hook good? 3.What does the sentence “show, don’t tell” mean when in reference to writing? Target: I can use the writing process, use revision strategies, and create a product that shows these skills.
