10 Sharing of Singapore’s New Initiatives in Urban Water Demand Management

11 Water Efficiency Non Domestic Domestic Mandatory submission of Water Efficiency Management Plan by large water users to PUB from Jun 2015 Large water users with water consumption of at least 60,000 m3 or average of at least 5,000 m3 per month in the preceding year Required to install private water meters within their premises to monitor water consumption. Water Efficiency Standards for Washing Machines Current requirement: at least 1 tick rating under MWELS To be tightened to 2 ticks from Oct 2015 In COS 2014, we announced the mandatory submission of the Water Efficiency Management Plan (WEMP) in 2015 for large water users consuming more than 60,000 m3 in the preceding year. Submissions will have to be made by June for at least 3 consecutive years. For the domestic sector, minimum water efficiency standards were imposed for washing machines. Currently, all models sold on the market must have at least a1 tick rating under the Mandatory Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme. From Oct 2015, this minimum water efficiency rating will be tightened to 2 ticks. The suppliers have been consulted and the necessary changes to the Regulations and required WTO consultation is in progress.
