2. Tomi’s Family Tomi lives in Hawaii and is Japanese- American. His ancestors lived in Japan. On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japanese military. Tomi’s family is very torn apart with their dad being arrested, and was sent to the main land. His grandpa was also arrested but got to come home because he had a stroke.

3. Papa’s Boat The military had shot down Papa’s sampan boat, because they weren’t flying a U.S flag on board. Tomi has a great idea that he is going to bring up his dads boat. Papa’s friend Sanji was killed while they were fishing by the U.S Marines, because they didn’t have a U.S flag. But will Keet Wilson, the boy who’s family is letting Tomi’s family stay on their property, get in the way of Tomi’s hopes and dreams?
