Slide 1 Payton- Before we start we are going to set the times of our horrible story Slide 1 Allison- August 18, 1941 it is first suggested to Roosevelt that he should imprison Japanese

Slide 1 Allison- December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor is bombed Slide 1 Payton- February 19, 1942, Roosevelt signed executive order 9066, which forced all Japanese Americans to evacuate the west coast.

Slide 3 – Payton Hello, my name is Chiyo Kusumoto. I used to live in Dallas TX before the war started. Here I am with my six brothers and sisters and my parents right before we got on the train to go to the assembly center in Mayer AZ. An assembly center is a temporary camp. My father tried to make it seem like a vacation, but we all new better. Slide 4 – Allison This is the first thing we saw when we walked into the camp. They were all over the place and we could hardly walk three feet before we ran in to one and have to turn around.

Slide 6 – Payton this is our camp in Mayer, Arizona. It is so small because it is only an assembly center. As soon as they move us all to either a internment camp or relocation center they will tear it down. Slide 5 – Allison the girl that is circled is me. When we first got to the camp we had to wait in this long line for hours to get registered in the camp. The line was hundreds of people long and people were pushing and shoving to get ahead. Many families were separated, and adults had to go in to a different line than children. Somehow my family managed to stay together in all the chaos.

Slide 8 Allison- This is my best friend from back home Fusa Tsumagari. One day I heard her on the radio. We weren’t supposed to have a radio, but a man in our room snuck one in. She was interviewed by a reporter about her experience in the camp. I was so glad to know she was ok. Slide 9 Allison- Several days after I heard Fusa on the radio, it was announced that this assembly center would be torn down and that everyone would have to be moved to a new camp in Seagoville TX. This is a picture of what our new camp looked like.

Slide 9 Allison the picture on the right is Jacob Moore. He is 16 years old and experienced Pearl Harbor. The picture on the left is me. Slide 9 Payton Our experiences were different because I was so young, but it we were also similar. We both had a horrible experience that changed our kives forever.

Slide 9 Allison In some ways I am thankful that I am not Jacob. He had to worry so much about his aunt and uncle and if he would even survive to see his family again. I was lucky to be with my family the whole time.
