2 History Most advanced technology in the world. Has gone through
thousands of updates.

3 Hardware Refers to the physical components of a computer.
Consists of monitor, motherboard, optical disc drive, keyboard, and mouse. Motherboard – a circuit board where processing tasks occur and main electronic component of a computer. Optical disc drive (ODD) – disk drive that uses laser light to read or write data to and from other ODDs. Ergonomic Keyboard – it has been designed to fit the natural placement of your hands and should reduce the risk of repetitive-motion injuries.

4 Software Refers to the intangible components of a computer system, particularly the programs, or lists of instructions, that the computer needs to perform a specific task. Examples: Application software - word processer, video games Testware - used to test hardware and/or software packages

5 Security Refers to the steps a computer owner takes to prevent unauthorized use of or damage to the computer. Once a computer is connected to a network, it’s essential that the computer be protected against possible threats from people intent on stealing information or causing malicious software. Possible Threats: Viruses – instruct your computer to perform destructive activities, such as erasing a disk drive. Can be just annoying or very harmful and require reformatting. Possible Solutions: Antivirus Software – searches executable files for the sequences of characters that may cause harm and disinfects the files by erasing or disabling. Firewall – prevents other computers on the Internet from accessing a computer and prevents programs on the computer from accessing the Internet without the user’s permission.

6 Computer Ethics The set of moral principles that regulate the use of computers. Common issues are intellectual property rights (such as copyrighted electronic content), privacy concerns, and how computers affect society. Example: It’s easy to duplicate copyrighted information, computer ethics suggest it’s wrong to do so without the author’s approval. It’s possible to access someone’s personal information, but computer ethics would suggest that such an action is highly unethical.
