3. Definition Special education is programs and instructions for children with physical, mental, emotional, or learning disabilities or gifted students who need special educational services in order to achieve at their ability level.

4. Exceptional Learners Students with special needs are described as exceptional learners. We can categorize exceptional learners as: –Students with mental retardation –Students with learning disabilities –Students with visual, hearing, and language impairments –Students who are gifted and talented

5. As an educator who works with students with special needs it helps to be patient, flexible, and understanding of their needs. Each of the students have their own special needs, and as an educator you are there to help your students face their challenges, grow, and develop.
