10 Ruling Puerto Rico Foraker Act: U.S. set up its own government. Limited say in their own affairs. 1917: Puerto Ricans were made citizens of the United States.

11 Ruling Cuba Platt Amendment: Limited Cuba’s rights to make treaties and borrow money. Gave U.S. a naval base at Guantanamo Bay.

12 WAR IN THE PHILIPPINES After the Spanish American War, U.S. took over the Philippines. The U.S. set up their own government. Amilio Aguinaldo began the fight for freedom against the U.S. War ended in 1901 when Aguinaldo was captured. 1946- Philippines were given their independence by the U.S.
