Question This is the question you set out to answer with your experiment. Put this is a large font like the one on this page. Make sure the question is very clear and easy to understand.

Hypothesis and variables Your hypothesis is a prediction - what do you think will happen in your experiment and why. Manipulated Variable: is what you changed, or the different circumstances you looked at Responding Variable: this is what you measured or recorded Controlled Variables: These are at least 3 things you kept the same in your experiment.

Background and Introduction This is where you can tell a little bit about the problem you are trying to solve or the question you are trying to answer, why did it interest you and were there any resources you used. Make sure you include where you got your information. For example, did you get it from a book, or the television or your parents? Explain anything that may help those looking at your poster to understand why you asked this question, and what you hoped to understand.

Materials Just like a cookbook recipe, you want to list all the ingredients to do your experiment so that someone else could do it if they wanted to. »Don’t forget anything you needed. »You might need to make a bulleted list like this one.

Procedure This is the step-by-step instructions to do the experiment. Put the steps in order, and make sure you include how you collected data. 1.Number your steps in the order they need to be done in. 2.Don’t forget how often and how you collect data. 3.Make sure you include as much detail as possible.

Results What kind of information did you gather to answer your hypothesis? »Is it a series of numbers? Chart or graph your data. Can you take a picture of the answer or your experiment? »Put it into your poster as a scanned image. Don’t draw any conclusions in the results section, just tell the data. To change the look of the chart, double click on it. To change the data in the chart, double click on the chart, use the view pulldown and choose datasheet. Here is an example of a picture inserted into the poster. This one is from clip art, but a scanned image from your camera would also work.

Discussion What did you think about or observe during the design, set-up and execution of your experiment? Did you see anything surprising or unexpected? Give the details of the most important measurement or data generating step.

Conclusions Does your data make sense? »For example, are the numbers too big or too small for what you would expect? Did things happen too fast or surprisingly slow? Did the temperature go as you would expect? Have you answered your question? »Did it follow your predictions? »If this experiment did not answer the question, then explain why not.

Next Steps An important outcome of an experiment should be an indication of what should be done next. For example, should the experiment be: »Repeated »Re-designed »Suspended »Terminated »Or have you designed your study so well that you only need to write it up as it is.

Results Descriptive Title Here Your Name Here Click “embed Truetype fonts” when saving your presentation Question What question are you trying to answr? What Would You Do Next What’s left to do? Materials Prediction of the results: suggested format (If I do __________ then I think ____________ will happen. Ingredients list Hypothesis Background information Information obtained from books, people, TV news etc. Discussion OK, you did all this work So what…? Do the results make sense? SAMPLE Graph To change the look of the chart, double click on it. To change the data in the chart, double click on the chart, use the view pulldown and choose datasheet. Conclusions Here is an example of a picture inserted into the poster. This one is from clip art, but a scanned image from your camera would also work. Tell about your thought process which led to your results. Procedure Step by step instructions
