The Book of Proverbs Chapter 2:1-22 We are Commanded to Receive God’s Word

In vs. 1 the verbs are Qal Imperfect. In vs. 2 Hiphal Infinitive. Both mean active - on going action. With the Infinitive also being a command.

1a) “Receiving” - LAQACH, Having the discipline to continue to take in God’s Word on a regular and consistent basis.

1b) “Treasuring” – TASPHAN, Used for the purposes of protection and safety. “Concealment” for the purposes of safety and protection, Ex 2:2.

Psa 27:5, “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret of His tabernacle He will hide me; He will set me up upon a rock.”

TASPAN - “To store up or hide treasure away.” God stores up wisdom and knowledge for the upright, Prov 2:7, and we should be storing it up in our hearts, Psa 119:11.

Psa 119:11, “Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.”

G.A.P. LEBAB - לְבַב MIND HEART LEB - לֵב - / + Human Spirit KNOWLEDGE (YADA - ידַע) PUMP LAUNCH PAD Edification Complex of the Soul SOUL Floor Application of Bible Doctrine Grace Apparatus for Perception BODY Ecclesiastes 10:2 (NIV) “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.”

We are to store and retain God’s word in the 6 compartments of the heart of our soul, via GAP, Prov 1:23.

A filing cabinet. The central resource center of your soul where you store and recall Bible doctrine.

Is equivalent to the drawers of the filing cabinet where you store information for easy access.

Is the actual files or file folders you place within the cabinet. It is the actual storage of information within your soul.

Is analogous to the tabs or headings we put on files or file folders as a technical reference to the information within the file giving us easy access and recall.

Is the systematic grouping of reference material for application. How you arrange the files or file folders.

The Norms and Standards of your soul, used as a basis of reference for the situations of life.

The animated process of applying the information stored in your soul.

Having launched Doctrinal information you leave it at that, trusting it and depending upon it in the details of life.

The believer who does not faith rest will instead have chaos in their soul.

2a) “Making attentive” - QASHAV, “paying attention or obeying.”

Isa 32:3, “Then the eyes of those who see will not be blinded, and the ears of those who hear will listen.”

We are commanded to internalize the teaching of God’s Word and have a faith relationship with Him. Any claims of sacrifice and faith without obedience are futile, 1 Sam 15:22.

1 Sam 15:22, “Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed (pay attention to) than the fat.”

2b) “Inclining” - NATAH, “to turn aside the ear, to listen.” It points to an alteration in the present course of action.

Jer 7:24, “Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward.”

Jer 7:26, “Yet they did not listen to Me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck; they did more evil than their fathers.”

Jer 11:8, “Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked, each one, in the stubbornness of his evil heart; therefore I brought on them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did not.”

Psa 49:4, “I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will express my riddle on the harp.” See also Prov 4:2; 5:1; 22:17.

The four things we are to receive, treasure, attend, and incline toward in GAP are: Sayings, Commandments, Wisdom, Understanding.
