5. Analysing qualitative data from unstructured interviews Following an unstructured interview, usually the researcher transcribes the recording. Analysis is then carried out on the transcript. – Produce a transcript of the interview excerpt on Moodle. You must aim to reproduce as words on paper exactly what transpired between interviewer and respondent.

6. Analysing qualitative data from unstructured interviews Use content analysis to turn it into quantitative data. Use a qualitative analysis strategy e.g. – Thematic analysis – Discourse analysis – Grounded theory research process

7. Which factors might threaten the validity of interview data?

8. Potential limitations of interviews (1) Characteristics of the interviewer can influence responses e.g. – Gender; – Ethnicity. (2) Interviewer may cue the PP to respond in particular ways (interviewer expectancy). (3) Response set e.g. social desirability bias
