2 Provincial Academies of Sport SASCOC Position We are the controlling body responsible for the Academy System as per the 2011 National Sport and Recreation Resolutions and the National Sport and Recreation Plan There should be Management Committees as opposed to Provincial Academy Boards Will facilitate and source funding for Academy programmes – in collaboration with Provincial Dept and SRSA Create the best possible environment for our athletes and officials from grass root to high performance

3 Academies of Sport Management Committee –Oversee the operational matters of the regional and provincial academy –Monitor programmes and give guidance in line with agreed upon National High Performance Plan –Monitor use of allocated funds and report accordingly –Provide required reports to the Province and SASCOC –Give input to the High Performance Commission Proposed Composition –1x Chairperson of Provincial Sports Council –Provincial Dept (HOD) –Scientific and Medical expert –Legal/Finance

4 Academies of Sport Talented athletes from the school sports programme channeled to the Regional Academies (Talent Scouts) Talented athletes from Federation sports specific talent programmes channeled to Regional Academies (Talent Scouts) Talent Identification (School Sport) Regional Academies

5 Academies of Sport Ensure understanding of the LTPD model Monitor and nurture the talent (Coaching and mentoring) Provide basic medical & scientific services (Centres network) Provide best possible facilities to develop talent within each region (Municipalities, SANDF, Schools, Colleges/FET’s). Only uproot kids from home where necessary and when conditions warrant that. Talent Identification (School Sport) Regional Academies

6 Academies of Sport Be the coordinating body and oversee all Regional Academies of Sport activities in their province Responsible for day-to day-running of Academy programmes Squad Camps - at least 4x a year Tracking and monitoring of athletes in Academy programme Liaison with stakeholders Provincial Academies of Sport Regional Academies

7 Human resources for Regional Academies (minimum) 1x Coordinator 1x Administrator (office manager) 1x Date Capturer (Data Management) Talent Scouts/ Coaches Human resources for Provincial Academy (minimum) 1x Manager 1x Administrator/Data Management 1x Financial Administrator

8 Academies of Sport -Residential Programme -Access for National and Provincial Athletes -Athlete career programme (ADECCO) -National Federations Pre-departure camps -Full scale medical and scientific support -Technological support Provincial Academies of Sport National Training Centre

9 Provincial Academies of Sport Role of Performance Centres Provide scientific, medical and research services Ensure scientific data is filtered to the Managers and Coaches Assist Academies on tracking and monitoring services Work closely with the CSIR on the provision of relevant and innovative technology Where applicable, house the Provincial Athletes

10 Provincial Academies of Sport Way forward Consolidate input from meeting Finalise funding model with Provinces and SRSA Identify and audit existing facilities (possible regional Academies) Identify and place Human Resources Second meeting to plan roll out Implementation Monitoring
