4. + Other Things to Love Yes, Texas has canyons. This one is Palo Duro in Amarillo.

6. + Scuba There are actually quite a few places to Scuba in Texas, though it may be different from what you’re used to. Natural springs showcase the majority of scuba opportunities, such as Athens Scuba Park and Clear Springs Scuba Park, both near Dallas. If you want traditional Scuba, head down to South Padre Island and that area of the coast.

7. + Horses You can pick up an old hobby! Not only can we ride any damn time we feel like, but we can ride any damn time we feel like for free! In fact, I’m sure mom would love for us to exercise some horses. We can also trail ride to any state park in the area and ‘rough it’ in the places you already love.

8. + Climbing To my surprise, and relief, there is a very active climbing community in Texas! Barton Creek Greenbelt near Austin, Rogers Park near Belton/Waco, Enchanted Rock near Fredericksburg, Bulls Creek near Austin, and Reimers Ranch near Austin, just to name a few. ALL in the Hillcountry, which is central Texas and close to us! Don’t take my word for it? Just google it. I mean, I had to get all this info from somewhere :P

9. + Hiking TONS of hiking. And I mean tons. Nice thing about Texas is there are lots of wooded and grassy places to stroll. Bastrop State Park near Bastrop, Enchanted Rock near Fredericksburg, Barton Creek Wilderness Park near Austin, Miller Springs Nature Center near Belton/Waco, and Cross Timbers Trail near Dallas. Another nice thing about Texas is the variety of terrain! Some places are arid while others lush, some by water and some thick with trees.

10. + Weather We both dislike the cold; that much I can easily add. Not a whole ton of cold in Texas., thank God. No more expensive coats. Mostly, it’s warm and sunny in Texas. Humidity is about the same, maybe a little more so. Perfect, right? No damn snow! With this awesome weather, you have more time available for your hobbies! No more waiting out the awful winter. We also have more time outdoors period, leaving more months for swimming and other such activities when it’s too hot to boulder/hike.
