1 The decline of the forests

2 Every second an area the size of a football field in the rain forest around the world vanishes. Rain forests covered 14% of the earth’s surface. But by now they cover 6%. The experts believe that the rest of the rain forest will vanish within the next 40 years. This image provided and copyrighted by Raintree Nutrition, Inc. 3 Over half the species of animals, insects and plants will vanish because of the destruction of the rain forest.. 137 species disappear every day. This amounts to 50,000 annually. 121 medications are being created by using the plants of the rain forest but only 1% of the plants have been proven by scientists. 4 500 years ago there were10 million Indians living in the rain forest, nowadays there are fewer than 200,000.
